- ICA asks for a new colour photograph taken within the last three months, as at October 2026.
- White background, front-on face, neutral expression, eyes visible, unaltered original digital photo.
- ICA’s e-Services upload is 400 x 514 pixels; online files are JPG, JPEG, HEIC, HEIF or PNG, up to 8 MB.
ICA wants a new colour photograph taken within the last three months, as at October 2026. Its rules follow ISO and ICAO specifications, and an upload through its e-Services is 400 x 514 pixels.
Suppose a traveller with a passport from a country on ICA’s visa list holds a photo from the last passport renewal, taken against a blue wall four months ago, both assumed for this example. That photo meets neither the white background rule nor the three-month rule.
This is official ICA information, not legal advice.
Who needs a photo for a Singapore visa?
ICA’s visa pages for India, Bangladesh and Nigeria put the photo on a checklist for an entry visa for business or social visits, between Form 14A and a copy of the passport biodata page, as at October 2026. A traveller whose travel document comes from a country or place on ICA’s visa list needs an entry visa; a US passport is not on the list. The passport must be valid for at least six months from entry. Applications go in online through a partner or a local contact, or at a Singapore Overseas Mission or its authorised visa agent, never at the immigration counters.
What must a Singapore visa photo look like?
ICA’s examples cross a face against blue and tick it against white. Of ICA’s thirteen rules, one is age: three months at most. The other twelve sort into six checks, as at October 2026.
- Light and focus: even brightness; sharp, not pixelated.
- Face: neutral expression, mouth closed; full frontal, eyes on the camera.
- Head and shoulders: shoulders and hair fully visible.
- Background: white background; head gear or attire dark against it.
- Eyes: clear untinted spectacle lenses; eyes fully visible; non-coloured contact lenses; no red eye.
- Honest image: not distorted or flipped; an original digital photo, unaltered by software or app.
What size and file does a visa photo need online?
In its answers on passport and identity card photos, ICA recommends asking someone else to take the photograph and allows a photo to be resized, with no other change. An upload through ICA’s e-Services must be 400 x 514 pixels, as at October 2026. Online submissions accept JPG, JPEG, HEIC, HEIF or PNG files up to 8 MB. A printed photo goes on a matte or semi-matte finish.
Frequently asked questions about visa photos
What size is a visa photo for Singapore?
For an upload through ICA’s e-Services, a photo is 400 x 514 pixels, as at October 2026. Online submissions accept JPG, JPEG, HEIC, HEIF and PNG files, up to 8 MB. A printed photo goes on a matte or semi-matte, non-reflective finish. ICA’s photo rules follow ISO and ICAO specifications. The photo must be taken within the last three months.
Can you use a selfie for a Singapore visa photo?
ICA answers the selfie question for passport and identity card applications: it recommends asking someone else to take the photograph, and says selfies taken on a mobile phone usually do not meet its photo requirements, as at October 2026. For a visa photo, ICA’s visa pages point to the same photo guidelines, from a white background to an unaltered original.
Can you wear glasses or a head covering in a visa photo?
Both appear among ICA’s thirteen rules, as at October 2026. Spectacles need clear, untinted lenses, with the eyes clearly visible. Head gear or attire must be dark in colour against the white background; in ICA’s examples a dark head covering is ticked and a pale one is crossed. Eyes must be fully visible, with non-coloured contact lenses and no red eye.
How recent must a Singapore visa photo be?
The photo must be taken within the last three months, as at October 2026. ICA’s visa pages for India, Bangladesh and Nigeria ask for a recent colour photograph taken within the last three months, and send applicants to ICA’s photo guidelines, which list the same rule among the thirteen. A photo older than that does not meet the three-month rule.
Do you need a photo to visit Singapore?
A photo is one of the documents for an entry visa, as at October 2026, alongside Form 14A. A traveller whose travel document comes from a country or place on ICA’s visa list needs an entry visa. A US passport is not on ICA’s visa list. The SG Arrival Card is not a visa, and a visa does not guarantee entry.
