    • US citizens do not need a Singapore visa; the United States is not on the immigration authority’s visa-required list.
    • Entry needs a passport valid for six months, proof of onward travel, sufficient cash and an SG Arrival Card within three days of arrival.
    • Immigration officers set the stay at the border, and the US Department of State says no visa is required for 90 days or less.

From 11 March 2022, visitors to Singapore receive an electronic Visit Pass by email after clearing immigration, in place of a passport stamp. US citizens do not need a visa to enter. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) lists the countries and places whose travel documents need one. The United States is not among them, as at October 2026. The e-Pass states the period of stay granted and the last day allowed.

Do US citizens need a visa to visit Singapore?

No. ICA publishes a list of the countries and places whose travel documents need a Singapore entry visa. The list, last updated on 25 June 2026, names 34 countries, plus refugee travel documents, alien’s passports and five named documents. The United States is not on it. Visitors from Australia are in the same position, as are visitors from the United Kingdom.

Some commercial visa-application sites tell US citizens a visa is required. ICA’s list says otherwise.

A visa is not the same as permission to enter. ICA states that a Singapore entry visa is ‘not an immigration pass’. It is pre-entry permission to travel to Singapore and seek entry. ICA officers decide at the point of entry whether to grant a pass. For travellers who do hold a visa, ICA states that the stay granted is not tied to the visa’s validity.

What do US citizens need to enter Singapore?

ICA requires every traveller, whatever their age, to hold a valid individually-issued travel document. It does not accept collective travel documents. All travellers except Singapore passport holders need a passport valid for at least six months. The US Department of State gives the rule a reference point, asking for six months of validity beyond the date of departure.

Short-term visitors should also hold sufficient cash and proof of onward travel, such as tickets or visas. ICA gives no amount for the cash.

Every traveller must submit the SG Arrival Card within three days before arrival, counting the day of arrival. ICA states that ‘SGAC submission is free of charge’. Passengers transiting through Singapore without seeking immigration clearance are exempt from the card. ICA also says Singapore is open to all transit travellers with ‘no specific regulations or requirements’. It adds that the onward destination can set its own requirements.

Yellow fever rules apply at arrival. A traveller who was in a yellow fever risk country in the six days before arrival must show a valid vaccination certificate. ICA counts travellers who spent ‘more than 12 hours in airport transit’ in such a country. Anyone without a certificate is liable to six days of quarantine from the date of departure from that country.

How long can US citizens stay in Singapore?

The checkpoint sets the length of stay. ICA states that visitors receive the e-Pass by email in place of ‘inked endorsement stamps’ on the passport. The e-Pass shows the maximum number of days of stay and the last day of stay allowed.

The US Department of State says ‘No visa is required for 90 days or less’. That is the Department of State’s statement, not ICA’s. ICA’s pages give no fixed figure for US citizens, so the e-Pass is the record that counts. Visitors can also retrieve it through ICA’s e-Pass enquiry portal, using either the disembarkation number issued after the SG Arrival Card submission or their passport details.

A visitor who needs longer applies for an extension of the visit pass. ICA accepts applications online only and takes no walk-in applications. Applications open when the pass has 14 days or less remaining. ICA assesses each case, including any family ties to Singapore citizens or permanent residents, and decides the length of the extension.

ICA states that overstaying is ‘a punishable offence’. The pass validity, not the visa validity, sets the permitted stay.

Can US citizens work on a visit pass?

No. ICA states that a visitor on a short-term visit pass shall not take part in ‘any form of employment (paid or unpaid)’. The ban also covers any business, profession or occupation. The two exceptions are a valid work pass and work pass exempt activities.

The rule covers unpaid work and paid work alike. A US citizen planning a business trip checks that each task falls inside the exempt activities before travelling.

Is there a visa on arrival or an e-visa for Singapore?

US citizens have nothing to apply for, as the United States is not on ICA’s list. Travellers whose documents do need a visa arrange it before departure. ICA does not accept visa applications at the immigration counters.

Frequently asked questions about Singapore visas for US citizens

Do I need a visa to visit Singapore?

A visa depends on the travel document, and a US passport does not need one. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) lists the countries and places whose documents need a Singapore entry visa. The United States, the United Kingdom and Australia are not on that list, as at October 2026. Travellers on the list apply before departure. ICA does not accept visa applications at the immigration counters.

    Can Americans travel to Singapore?

Americans can travel to Singapore without a visa, subject to the entry requirements. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) requires a valid individually-issued passport with six months of validity. Travellers also need sufficient cash and proof of onward travel. They submit the SG Arrival Card within three days before arrival. ICA officers decide at the border whether to grant a visit pass.

Is Singapore visa free for US citizens?

The United States is not on the visa-required list kept by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). US citizens do not apply for a Singapore visa. That is not the same as unconditional entry. ICA states that a visa is not an immigration pass, and ICA officers decide at the point of entry whether to grant one. Entry requirements still apply.

Does Singapore have a visa on arrival?

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) does not accept visa applications at immigration counters. Travellers whose documents need a visa arrange it in advance. US citizens are not on ICA’s list, so they have nothing to apply for, at the border or before travel. They submit the SG Arrival Card, and an e-Pass arrives by email after they clear immigration.
