    • Visitors extend the short-term visit pass, not the visa, online only, when 14 days or less remain on it.
    • The fee is S$40 once an extension takes the stay to 90 days or more from entry, plus S$30 if a visa is needed.
    • ICA says processing takes five working days, and some applications take longer.

A tourist does not extend a visa in Singapore. A tourist extends the short-term visit pass, usually the e-Pass, and the pass sets the stay. The application is online only, and it opens when the pass has 14 days or less remaining, as at October 2026.

A visitor opens the e-Pass email, reads the last day of stay and counts back from it. Fourteen days or fewer is the line for applying. The visitor, the dates and the count are assumptions for this example.

This is the route for tourist and social visits and medical treatment on an ICA visit pass. ICA decides the length of any extension, case by case.

Can you extend a tourist visa in Singapore?

The e-Pass email names the period of stay and the last day of stay allowed. The visit pass, not the visa, sets the stay, as the tourist visa requirements set out, and the pass is what ICA extends.

ICA reviews every application holistically, including the circumstances behind the request. The period of extension is subject to ICA’s assessment.

Passes issued by the Ministry of Manpower, for example after a work pass is cancelled, go through MOM.

When can you apply to extend your stay in Singapore?

Fourteen days or fewer of validity remaining on the e-Pass is the line for applying.

Every application goes through the ICA e-Service online, and walk-ins are not accepted. ICA says processing takes five working days, excluding public holidays and weekends, and some applications take longer.

ICA advises departing on or before the expiry date of the existing pass. Overstaying is a punishable offence.

How do you extend a visit pass in Singapore?

The e-Service takes a scan of the passport page that shows the personal particulars, and the Disembarkation/Embarkation (D/E) number from the SG Arrival Card.

ICA can ask for more documents case by case. Examples are original documents that establish a family relationship and, for medical treatment, a Form V75 endorsed by a registered doctor in Singapore.

ICA sends the outcome by e-notification to the email address in the application. A physical endorsement is not needed for approved e-Service applications.

Status is checked on the e-Service with the travel document number and either the D/E number or the document’s expiry date. A failed e-Service is reported through ICA’s enquiry form, with a screenshot of the error.

Who needs a local sponsor to extend a stay?

Behind some applications stands a second person, a sponsor with a Singpass account. A sponsor is needed if the applicant has immediate family who are Singapore citizens or permanent residents. It is also needed for nationals of the 20 countries on ICA’s list, which sits on its extension page. Three document types need one too: a Palestinian Authority passport, a temporary passport issued by the UAE, and a refugee travel document issued by Middle-East countries.

The sponsor must be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident aged at least 21.

How much does an extension cost in Singapore?

Ninety days from entry is the first block. ICA charges S$40 when the extension takes the stay to 90 days or more from the date of entry or issuance of the pass, and again for every subsequent block of 90 days. In ICA’s example, the S$40 applies again at 180 days or more.

Visitors who need a visa pay a S$30 visa fee, where applicable, and the fees are non-refundable. ICA grants the extension only when payment is made, and an application not paid on time is withdrawn. Online payment is by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, internet direct debit or PayNow.
